Aia Vecchia Toscana Sorugo 2001

From the late Hungarian winemaker Tibor Gal and former winemaker at the famous Ornellaia this "baby Ornellaia" is something to behold. Aia Vecchia's Sorugo is packed with beautiful Tuscan character turning these Bordeaux varietals into a magical creation totally unique from the rest of the world. Super-Tuscans are my new passion!! I tasted Ornellaia a few weeks back and fell in love with these wines. Sorugo scored 93 points in Spectator and is worth every bit of that score and more. The nose on this wine is really just a beautiful bouquet of chocolate, plum, over-ripe raspberry, cedar, leather, and oak. Beautiful chocolate notes coat the palate as this wine slides down your mouth with silk-like tannin. Lots of life left in this wine and 4-5 years will no doubt turn this into a classic and something to match the best of Bordeaux or Cali Cab. I score it 95 point and can't write enough about this beautiful effort.
