2003 Chateau Lassegue
This right bank Bordeaux is a classic example of a wine that needs proper aging in order to fully enjoy the character and complexity of it. When I first opened this wine I could not believe the acidic, tannic, and rustic flavors I was not expecting to recieve. After having this bottle open for about 3 days now finally I can see the true potential and beauty of this St. Emillion Grand Cru. In fact this wine has completely matured into a fabulous wine with lots of complexity and soft, beautiful flavors. The nose bursts with a perfume of ripe plum, chalky coco, black licorice, and dark over-ripe cherry. The flavors are complex and soft after being well decanted and exposed to oxygen. Milk chocolate, blackberry, and leather, accompanied by a firm tannin structure and a medium finish. This wine is well made and has lots of aging potential. Should mature from 2008-2016. I score this wine 89 points.
