Conde de Valdemar Rioja Reserva 2001

This is a great Spanish wine that is a fantastic value for the price and has a great history and reputation in Rioja for pioneering the modern style Rioja wines. This wine shows aromas of ripe plum fruit, vanilla, tar, earth, and just a bit of like a Bordeaux-esc saddlebag. The flavors are of oak, ripe plum, earth, and a bit of pencil led. The finish is dry and short with sharp acid. My guess is though the wine shows well alone that it would pair very nicely with a spanish cuisine. I score the wine 88 points.
