Elyse Nero Misto 2004

This little cal-ital field blend is a fun example of what blending a lot of different grape varieties can lead to. Nero Misto is a blend of 28% Zinfandel, 26% Petite Syrah, 14% Carignane, 10% Syrah, %13 Primitivo, 4% Gamay, 2% Barbera and a 2% blend of Grand Noir, Alicante Bouschet, Petit Verdot and Valdiguie. The Zin is very well pronounced in the nose and shows aromas of lush raspberry, spice, and a subtle hint of black pepper. The flavors are of sweet and bold black raspberry, black pepper, and prunes all wound together by a good tight tannin structure and a medium to long finish. I enjoyed this wine as I normally do with weird little eclectic red blends. I score the wine 88 points.
