Seghesio Old Vine Zinfandel 2004

The average age of the vines from which the grapes used in this wine were harvested from is 90 years old. We're talking real old vine here folks! The Seghesio family has been around for over a hundred years and they're wines speak of the great tradition and heritage from which they are born. The 04' Seghesio Old Vine is a rich full bodied wine with aromas of ripe black raspberry, cherry cola, and rich chocolate truffle, flavors of rich, ripe, and sweet raspberry and cherry fruit grace the palate with just a pinch of brown sugar to add to the complexity of fine effort. The odd thing is this wine can appear to some as a dry, powerful, and exalting wine while to the avid wine enthusiast it might seem full of ripe and sweet fruit. I really enjoy this style of Zin because it has lots of fruit and finesse but it still packs lots of backbone and could be paired well with a big hearty steak. I score this wine 89+ points.
