Plumpjack Merlot 2004

A pretty famous California wine producer with a solid reputation for good Cabernet, Chardonnay, and Merlot. The 2004 Plumpjack Merlot is a young wine that has a full bodied structure and a youthful vigor. The color is a dark ruby-purple shade that displays youth and the aromas are deep and strong and fill the room with their robust perfume. Ripe cherry, oak, and dark chocolate dominate the nose while flavors of semi-sweet chocolate, blackberry, oak, and ripe black raspberry grace the palate. This wine is possibly too young to be consumed at the moment. The oak needs time to integrate and the fruit flavors will reveal themselves when the heavy oak disappears a bit. I like the wine and think it will improve with age. Decant this Merlot and serve it with hearty red meat dishes and you'll be impressed. The deep raspberry flavors appear as the wine opens up. I score the wine 90 points.
