2000 Pine Ridge "Dijon Clones" Chardonnay
I really wanted to post a review about an older California Chardonnay and especially one where I could do it justice and explain the joy it is to find a gem like this still drinking so damn good and maybe even better than when it was first released. The nose on this wine was very complex and showed beautiful notes of a nutty oak, buttered popcorn, and creamy custard. Not many fruit aromas remain in the bouquet but the complexity of the other components make up for it. The flavors were very much still alive and showed notes of butter and a lemony custard that grace the palate with a long, creamy, and seductive finish. I think we caught this wine at the perfect time and don't believe it could get much better. I need to go and taste the new releases of this wine to validate my assumption that this wine started with great acid and balance. If I had to score this wine now and as is I would say 94 points without hesitation.
