2005 Twenty Rows Merlot

This affordable Napa Valley Merlot is a very "new world" offering boasting deep and dark aromas of blackberry, black pepper, and a distinctive chalky Napa valley style black raspberry. It almost smells like a lot of Rutherford Cab's I have enjoyed throughout the years. The flavors are ripe and big and show hints of vanilla, oak, and black raspberry. Not a bad effort for the price point but this wine is just not my favorite style of wine at the moment. My impression while tasting it was that the wine had been manipulated with oak and that those over the top flavors led to an off balanced and awkward finish. I score this wine 85 points and believe that many fans of the big juicy reds from California may like this stuff a lot.
