2005 Silver Horse "The Big Easy"

This proprietary blend from Silver Horse winery in Paso Robles is a melange of %69 Tempranillo, %25 Grenache, and %6 Cabernet Sauvignon. This family owned winery is relatively small in terms of production and in fact there were only 100 cases produced of this wine. Dark and deep red in color, this wine shows aromas of ripe blackberry, creme de cassis, creamy oak, and even smells a bit like some Syrah's I've had. The flavors are round and juicy and display nuances of black raspberry, cassis, tar, and creamy oak. There is some tannin that accompanies the finish but helps this wine to make a long impression on the palate and a extended after taste. I enjoyed this wine after tasting two somewhat drab French selections which might have impaired my judgement but I realized that more often than not, "new world" wines are more consistently drinkable for me. I score this wine 89 points.
