2004 Carpineto Chianti Classico Riserva

Not knowing the history of the winery and never have tasted the Carpineto wines, I wasn't expecting to get blown away by a Chianti. The Carpineto Chianti Classico Riserva was a revelation to me and I will never take the wines from this region for granted ever again. Being the huge fan of Brunello I often forget about the other quality wines from Tuscany and this was a great reminder of the grace and style of Chianti Classico.

The bouquet is vintage Tuscany with it's striking red fruits and rustic but gorgeous earthiness. Deep Cherry, raspberry, red currant, violet, leather, and earth make up just a few of the complex aromas that blossom from this wine. The texture of the juice is very soft and seductive but does reveal it's true power with the firm tannins that accompany the finish. Black cherry, soft cedar, leather, red currant, and semi-sweet coco are flavors to describe this Chianti. Great complexity, Tuscan character, style and sexiness! I score this wine 92 points.

I just had a bottle of this lovely wine tonight, and I was more than impressed. It had a bouquet that was complex and seductive; very aromatic, with dark fruits, mineral, spice, etc. Yet, the body was well-rounded and balanced. Finish was generous and lingering. What else can you ask for? I would give it a solid 92 points!
