2005 Fortino Carignan

This 100% Carignan from the Santa Clara Valley is a stunning crowd pleaser with amazing fresh fruit flavors. Fabulous fresh raspberry and strawberry preserves on the nose lead into a slightly sweet and jammy flavor profile. Fresh strawberry jam and sugared raspberries make this wine seem like a dryer version of a late harvest Zinfandel. In fact, if I tasted this wine blind I would without hesitation say it was Zinfandel. The wine is very fun and as I said before, a true crowd pleaser, but it lacks the complexity to be considered a serious wine. It's really so fun and delicious that is doesn't need sophistication. Great effort! 87 points.

I know it's been a while since you reviewed this wine. I just has a later vintage of the Fortino Carignan recently and had a different take on it.
I wrote about it here...
