Lava Cap winery from the El Dorado appellation is located in the beautiful Sierra Foothills near Placerville, California. They are known for affordable wines that are great quality for the price. Their 2006 reserve Chardonnay starts off with slightly subdued aromas of toasted oak, Meyer lemon, and yellow apple. The flavors are rich and creamy and show notes of ripe pear, and golden delicious apple. Although this wine is slightly challenged aromatically, I really think it packs great richness and body on the palate and finishes with great fruit character. I'd say it's a buy at the price point and give it
89 points.
