2004 Cantina Zaccagnini Montepulciano d'Abruzzo Riserva

This wine it's intense black color and full bodied spiciness threw me off gaurd as I was expecting to see a more Italian-esc type wine. The nose showed hints of black currant and black licorice. The flavors profile continues with black fruits of blackberry, black cherry, and hints of tar. Very dry and slightly bitter tannins accompany the finish which is concerning. The wine is simply a bit off balance and not really typical in character for this wine region. The packaging is snappy but I can't score this wine any higher than 83 Points.
