2006 Papapietro Perry Leras Family Vineyards Pino Noir

This wine from the Russian River Valley is made by Ben Papapietro in his small family owned winery. The Leras Family Vineyard, located in the heart of the Russian River Valley off Woolsey Road, is planted with Pommard clones that are approximately 12 years old, as well as newer vine clones 115, 667 and 777. The vineyard embodies earthiness and minerals, the signature of Pinot Noir grown in the Russian River Valley.

The color of this wine was very light, in fact if it was any lighter it would almost pass for a rose. The bouquet showed notes of fresh strawberry, mineral, and sandalwood. The flavors were of soft strawberry, Rainer cherry, and minerals. This wine improved with a bit of aeration as do most wines. The finish was a little warm but I have grown to expect this from most Russian River Pinot's(high octane)! 88 points
