2004 Bogle Phantom

This is a blend of 54% Petite Sirah, 43% old vine Zinfandel, 3% old vine Mourvedre, and is a full bodied, dark colored, red wine. Bogle is not entirely known for making high end or premium wines, but they do however make a very formidable product for the money. I have often been quite impressed with their Petite Sirah bottlings. The aromas of this wine start off with a luscious brambleberry, mulberry, candied black raspberry, and dark chocolate. The big ripe and rich texture shows full flavors of black raspberry and black cherry. The wine is somewhat chunky and off balance and on the finish their is a inordinate amount of dry tannin. The alcohol is a bit heavy on the finish as well and although the wine is quite extracted it is well off balance. 84-85 points
