I have to admit I'm a sucker for the sweet stuff but the 2005 Nugan Botrytis Semillon struck me as a very balanced and seamless effort with a huge long finish. The bouquet showed notes of dried apricot, apricot marmalade, sugared dates, fig, and honey. On the palate the wine was viscous but clean because of the generous amount of acid. Flavors of apricot were dominant throughout but sugared dates and figs made their presence known as well as a good dose of honey and apricot nectar. The finish was what I was so excited about because it lasted around 60 full seconds. This is a lovely example of desert wine that could compete with some of the best from Sauternes. I score the wine 92 points.
