2005 Paul Hobbs Cabernet Sauvignon Beckstoffer Dr. Crane Vineyard

This wine produced from fruit in St. Helena was aged 20 months in 95% new French oak barrels and is sourced Andy Beckstoffer's Dr. Crane vineyard. The aromas of this wine are dense and concentrated and show black fruits like blackberry, cassis, and black currant. The fruit is also complimented by notes of dark chocolate, black licorice, anise, smoke, graphite and a good dose of oak. Plush and ripe fruit flavors of crème de cassis and blackberry are accompanied by layers of creamy oak and dark chocolate. The wine is nice and polished but does show a bit of alcohol on the nose and palate. It does contain 15.3% alcohol and I'm guessing that with a bit of bottle age this will perhaps integrate better. A deeply extracted and concentrated effort that I think is worthy of 93 points.
