2005 Penfolds Thomas Hyland Cabernet Sauvignon

The 2005 Penfolds Thomas Hyland Cabernet Sauvignon is a great little value for the price. No, it's not a stunner and won't make you have any religious experiences, but it is a great value wine nonetheless. The aromas show great tipicity with huge black cherry notes, oak, eucalyptus, and a mulch-like soil smell. I let my 4 year old smell it and he said it smells like cherries! Guess that's a good sign, right! Anyways, the flavor profile follows suit with ripe cherry, oak, soil, and just hints of a green veggie. The tannins are a bit ruff on the front of the palate but a little air will loosen them up. Overall this wine delivers for the price and I suggest you seek it out if you're looking for an everyday table wine. I suspect you could pick it up at Cost Co. or a Bevmo for a bargain. 86-87 points
