2004 Tenuta di Arceno PrimaVoce

This little Tuscan wine is a blend of 85% Cabernet Sauvignon and %15 Merlot. Previous vintages also included a bit of Sangiovese but the 2004 is strictly French varietal based. The color of this wine is extremely dark and opaque and looks almost black. On the nose prunes, coco, leather, game, brett, and teriyaki jerky, all came to my mind while analyzing the aromas. For some reason Prima Voce has always been a wine with a strange and funktified nose and this wine is no different. The flavors were just a funky and rustic in nature showing lots of dirty oak notes and green tannins. It seems as though the wine was vinified without removing the pips, stems, or leaves?? There is however a bit of blackberry and black cherry amongst the bitter tannin and rustic nuances. For me, this wine is a very poor showing and for the price point it can be beat on many fronts.
