The 2005 De
Tierra Chardonnay "Coast View Vineyard" is like the winemaker David Coventry says, "A great example of what you can do with Chardonnay". David is a really cool guy, with a quirky sense of humor and a classy arrogance about what he's doing at De
Tierra. This Chardonnay has a bouquet that expresses aromas of creme
brulee, caramel apple, and toasted oak. On the palate this wine offers flavors of pear, apple spice, cream, caramel, and on the finish buttered toast. The wine has a very nice crispness about it and very nice fruit to oak balance. Balancing fruit to oak is key with Chard and David talked
expressively about the need for this. I think this wine is a very good and balanced effort but lacks a just a tad bit of depth on the finish.
