If your answer to that question is no and the person you are buying for is a mere wine novice, then you might consider something with a little residual sugar. Those who rarely drink wine and don't have a developed taste for it, almost always enjoy something with a bit of sweetness. Riesling is a great example of a white and Zinfandel could be an honest play in this situation.
When choosing a wine as a gift for someone remember that as long as it doesn't appear to be a cheap selection from Trader Joe's or the local gas station, then your probably going to have a very happy recipient! Wine is such a fantastic gift because the person receiving it knows you want them to enjoy themselves and the finer things in life!

i have heard wine can be drunk to get a shiny face and skin. is it true. if yes what type of wine should be taken for that??
This wine enthusiast is also a huge fan of red zin and ancient vine anything, but as you pointed out, you'd better be sure you've got a regular on your hands, or that intense grapey goodness could sadly wind up down the drain. EEP!
My shopping list consists of $5 Franc Merlot for everyone! I ranked it #2 in my top 10 list of favorite Trader Joe's Wine. Enjoy!
Cheers,
Jason
I love Trader Joe's wine, too. I wouldn't buy Two-Buck Chuck as a gift, but I'd certainly choose one at a higher price point.
Trader Joe's definitely has some interesting wines, mostly private label jazz that can be exceptional value. But they also have a load of down right shlub wines!
