2005 Page Wine Cellars "3Doves" Merlot

This Napa Valley Merlot has all the ripeness and all rich fruit of the best Cabernet's and if tasted blind on this wine, I might have trouble choosing Merlot as the varietal. I'm not saying that Merlot is in any way inferior to Cab, but usually it doesn't carry this kind of weight and voluptuousness.

On the nose I get black raspberry, black cherry, spice, cedar, and savory chocolate truffle. The flavors follow suit and show a fabulous richness and lots of fruit preserves; rich black cherry, raspberry jam, chocolate, and hints of spice are just a few of the flavor characteristics. There is also a stunning wild strawberry attribute that I enjoy in this Merlot. The finish is lined with a touch of bacon fat and chocolate, which I found very appealing as well. A very nice wine that is drinking with great texture and richness. 90+ points
