2006 Campo Al Mare Bolgheri

Campo al Mare is produced from 60% Merlot, 20% Cabernet Sauvignon and 20% Cabernet Franc grapes cultivated within the Campo al Mare estate in the D.O.C. zone of Bolgheri. This is another wine made from the Folonari family who established this 100 acre property in Bolgheri near the Mediterranean coast in late 2002. This is only the forth vintage of this wine with the first being the 2003 vintage which was released in 2005.

This darkly colored wine has an amazingly intense bouquet laced with seductive espresso bean, black licorice, luscious blackberry, Asian spice, brambly Marion berry, and milk chocolate. On the palate the wine has a very smooth and creamy texture and shows flavors of blueberry, raspberry pie, coffee bean, tar, and dark chocolate. There is huge black fruit here and it shows amazing density and complexity with a finish that goes on for days. Out of a group of six wines I tasted last night this was the star. Really great stuff! 94+ points

nice write up - this bottle is selling for $22 US. Is it worth it?
