2007 Fog Alley Chardonnay

Sunday, May 31, 2009

This Chardonnay from the Central Coast of California is a crisp, unoaked, and very vibrant style. I'm not usually a huge fan of unoaked Chardonnay because I feel many times they lack complexity and depth, but this wine was a complete shocker. I hate the packaging, but the wine is an amazing value and it has great fruit purity.

On the nose I get bright and vibrant notes of lime peel, kiwi, pear, and a generous dose of tropical fruits such as papaya and pineapple. On the palate this wine offers a crisp acidity and flavors reminiscent of pineapple, kiwi fruit, lemon-lime, honeydew, and tangelo.

As I said before, this is probably one of the best unoaked Chardonnays I've tasted and it's fresh, lively, and just downright good wine! 90 points
